5 Steps To A New Website

May 25, 2011 by Brad Trivers

So SunriseWeb.ca is a PEI company that specializes in the WordPress CMS (Content Management System) to build websites, provide web hosting, and develop web applications (WordPress plugins). What does this really mean? Well, after we meet with you to find out what you want from a website, here is the 5-step process we use to build it.

Step 1 - CHOOSE A THEME

By choosing a premium WordPress “theme” to provide the base look, feel and functionality of the website we can set up a website more quickly, and at a lower cost than traditional web design.  We like themes built by ElegantThemes.com where we have a developers’ license –  check them out now!  We will also install “plugins” to add functionality you need in your site.

Step 2 - ADD CONTENT

Organize your content as either pages (for more static information) or posts (usually used for time-specific information). For example, Contact Us would be one of your pages, whereas Blog or news updates would be posts.   If your site is used to sell products, they will be set up as posts. Posts are organized into Categories, which can be displayed on your main navigation menu. For example, if you were selling vehicles, your categories might be Cars, Trucks, and Minivans, and each category would contain several posts (vehicles with their photos).

Step 3 - CUSTOMIZE

Integrate your logo, colours of your choice and other graphics unique to your business.  Add features and functionality specific to your business. We are web developers, so we can also change what your website does (e.g. add a reservation system, events calendar, e-commerce).  The closer you stay to the original theme, the simpler and less expensive this step is – the more we have to customize to your specific needs, the more expensive.

Step 4 - INTEGRATE

Integrate your site with social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, PicasaWeb, etc. This could be as simple as having a link from your website to your Facebook or Twitter account. Or the other way around, maybe you want custom tabs on your Facebook page to bring people to your website. To save time, you can set up automated posts from your website to social media. Other possibilities include Like boxes, email subscription, sharing and more.

Step 5 - UPDATE REGULARLY

It is very important to regularly update your website with new information to improve and maintain your search engine rankings.  Visitors and search engines like websites that are current and fresh.  We help you create new posts with relevant keywords that keep search engines, readers and customers coming back to stay up-to-date and interested in your business.
